Before this 150-year-old mansion could accommodate the French Consulate General it had to be restored to its original condition. The building, which once housed the American Embassy, had been greatly disfigured over the course of many years. The project presented a number of challenges, not least because there is little awareness in the Kazakh property market of issues related to building cultures and the protection of historical monuments. It was also necessary to comply with stringent security requirements. The solutions adopted in this project make it a perfect example of a sustainable approach to cultural heritage.
